Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are most commonly performed using alpha hydroxyacids. These are naturally occurring acids found in fruits and other foods. Alpha hydroxyacids have proven to be effective in treating dry skin, acne, liver or sun spots, diminishing fine facial wrinkles, decreasing pore size, and improving skin texture. Light peels are usually performed in a series of six to eight peels, each peel four to six weeks apart. This type of peel leaves the skin with a red glow that only lasts for a day or so.

Several different types of peels are offerred for different therapeutic effects. Skin Medica Re-Vitalize peels are excellent for exfoliation to reveal younger, vibrant skin. Neostrata alpha hydroxy peels come in different strengths and work well to revitalize skin and diminish wrinkles. Salicylic acid and Jessner peels are used to penetrate acne and create a beautiful complexion. Depending on the treatment goals, we usually recommend Obagi, Skin Medica or Neostrata creams in between peels to synergistically produce dramatic results.
